Game On!
Iceberg on June 9th, 2006 | File Under Sports -The World Cup starts tonight. I’ve found my bar and caught up on my sleep, so let’s get it goin’. The first match is Germany vs. Costa Rica. Don’t think it won’t be exciting. Remember that Senegal defeated France 1-0 in the opening game of the 2002 World Cup, which was extra sweet for me because I had the misfortune of drawing Senegal and Cameroon in our office pool. It gave me at least some semblance of hope for the tournament.
In case you missed them (and care in the slightest), here are my World Cup picks. It’s not too late to make your wagers (not with me, of course).

Iceberg on June 9th, 2006 | File Under Humor, In the News -This is admittedly late, but check out this May 30 news report from the Chosun Ilbo:
Man Makes Bomb Threat to Catch Flight
Police at Incheon International Airport on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of making a bomb threat to an airline in order to avoid missing a flight. The man identified as Baek (47) placed a phone call to the airport’s information desk saying he placed a bomb on a Taipei-bound plane that would detonate when it takes off.
A bomb squad was immediately dispatched but found no explosives on the plane. The call was traced to the third-floor departure lounge, where Baek was arrested. He reportedly told police he had forgotten his passport and feared he would miss the flight if he went back to get it, so he decided to delay departure. Police said Baek will be charged with violation of aircraft safety laws.
It turns out he didn’t make his flight after all. This guy may get the award for dumbest smart guy of 2006. Here’s hoping others don’t follow his lead and start making erroneous threats for their own convenience, or else we may see headlines like these:
