Shopping for Teachers
The Korea Times reports that Choongahm High School in Seoul has implemented a system where students are allowed to choose their homeroom teacher online. The idea is that it will provide officials a tool for evaluating teachers. Of course, the problem with the plan is that the students doing the choosing were all incoming freshman who I presume wouldn’t know much about the teachers. Then again, the school posted each teacher’s profile and photograph on the school website to help students make up their minds. One teacher’s class was full within a minute. My guess is the teacher looks a little somethin’ like this.

this looks like a really bad idea. students are terrible when it comes to deciding who’s a good teacher and who’s not.
in my case, for example, i am a great teacher but the students hate me. i’ve told my bosses it’s because i’m the only one on staff actually doing any teaching and that holding a student by his ankle out a window three stories above the ground is a widely accepted method of classroom management.
they fire me none the less.
