Don’t Embrace Me So Hard
So…I’m checking out the Seoul Immigration Office website to get some information on the new criminal background check required for E-2 visa holders…
…and I scrolled down to the bottom of the page, where I saw this…
Included with that embrace is a good frisking, it seems.

It’s about time you posted. As a loyal berg reader it’s been a long time. As for the embracing, I have to agree, I’d rather not be embraced as hard. Think these new rules are going to last? I’m inclined with the crowd saying they’ll quietly disappear after a year, after the hagwon lobby starts screaming bloody murder about the slow down in hiring teachers and increase in expenses.

Hey, thanks for posting this!
I do always return to your blog for random , interesting Korean
bits & bobs. Could you post more pieces in this direction…?
I do find find Korean Football a little interesting, but then again I live in the States where you CANT ESCAPE an overload & constant stream of NFL info.
I do LOVE your blog, so dont take this comment the wrong way. After starting to think that you were now only going to post on the subject of Football, I searched for other Korea life blogs, only to find them so dull, I came running back to yours.

Hey Scot, I too was getting a little annoyed with all this football, but it’s your blog. There’s quite a bit of info on daveseslcafe about the immigration issue. Immigration officials are going to love this. Think about all the opportunities to pass little white envelopes. It’s also going to be good for F-2 and F-4 visa holders. I heard that most embassies are unable to help with criminal background checks and that one Canadian who did it said it took several months to do it from Korea through the mail. The other thing I read was that medical checks will have to be done at an approved hospital. I wonder how much that check-up will cost? “Turn your head and cough.” This is for sure going to turn into a big money racket. I’d be curious to hear of anyone’s experiences here in the next few weeks. Take it easy buddy.
P.S. Would like to see more stories of misadventure in Korea. I might have a few myself!

Hey all…
Gosh, I didn’t know the football stuff was so uninteresting. Actually, I sort of suspected it was, but it’s all I’ve felt like writing about recently. I’ve been really busy at work and, when I finish, sitting down and creating a new post for the blog has been the last thing on my mind.
Concerning the criminal background checks, I went to immigration last week to look into it and was told that the starting date for checks for visa renewals was pushed back to March 15. Will it last? I have no idea. Personally, I don’t really care as long as I don’t have to do it every year.
Please bear with me through one more football post (maybe two). The Andres have advanced to the title game. Woohoo!!!
p.s. - Sean, thanks for the kind words.
p.p.s. - Good to see you’re about Quin.
p.p.p.s. - Kenny, I’ll eventually get around to writing more Korean experience stuff. Indeed, I had a very interesting experience just last Friday. It’s just that, you know, one has to be selective about what one shares.
p.p.p.p.s. - tp (toilet paper?), how’s Gwangju treatin’ ya?
